At Peter Sarpy, we have a Positive Behavior Plan in place. We want to catch our students making good choices! Every member at Peter Sarpy is a vital part of this plan.
Dolphin Grams:
Dolphin grams are given to students when they are "caught" making correct choices. Students are told why they are receiving the dolphin gram. Dolphin grams are then collected and turned into the child's teacher for various items:
25 Dolphin Grams earns students a lanyard that they are allowed to wear every day to show their achievements.
Every additional dolphin gram earns the student a new charm
S = Safe
T = Take Responsibility
A = A Kind Word
R = Respectful
Quarterly Recognition:
Students are recognized each quarter for their positive behavior efforts. There is an assembly for each quarter in which teachers select a student for each behavior expectation:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Kind
Be Safe
Each teacher chooses a student who they feel embodies the behavior expectation. Students are given a certificate and an additional charm that they can put on their lanyard.
Friday Dolphin Winners:
Every Friday, each teacher recognizes a student who has displayed great, positive behavior choices throughout the week. These are announced over the intercom at the end of the day each Friday. Students receive a certificate and have their picture taken for our positive behavior bulletin boards at school.
Behavior Clip Chart
In our classroom, we have a behavior clip chart. This chart is used to monitor daily behavior in our classroom. Each student has a clothespin with their name on it. Every morning, each student is positioned on the green Ready to Learn space. The child's choices throughout the day will warrant where they will move. It is important for students to know and understand that they can move between multiple colors throughout the day. Students can also earn back colors if they end up needing to move down. We like to remind students that it is up to them to turn their day around!
